Semolina or Rawa

Upma  would be the hardest breakfast to eat. When Mom makes breakfast, we will always saylike No..no. Later after childhood When Mum comes home tired after late nite work at chennai,She simply prepares hot rawa upma which is served with Sambar. And it tastes wholesome and delicious. And the bigger part is her love in feeding me hot with Sambar.

Today i take oath to prepare break fast for the family which i have skipped all these 5 years after Ahilan's birth. My entry is confined to dinner table and kitchen is under full care by Grand Ma. Grand Ma has really rescued me from all those night mares of preparing breakfast / lunch in the busy schedule of my day with 2 toddlers along with my software engineering work.

Today i made it a point to at-least prepare breakfast. And the dishes should be easy to cook and not much of time consuming. But yet needs to be healthy and traditional which has been followed in our home. And for tomorrow i choose to prepare vegetable upma with onion chutney. I indexed the recipes from  youtube for both of these.

While i was preparing mentally for these recipes, i suddenly delved in to the details behind sooji. Once i have asked my mom as to from where we are getting sooji. Is it from some grain? She did not had an answer too.

So i googled for an answer and the answer is interesting that Sooji or Semolina is byproduct(not flour)  of wheat milling process which transforms wheat in to flour . It is a good source of proteinfiber, phosphorus. And it is  very interesting to know that PASTA is also prepared from Semolina.

Parthiban loves to eat Pasta and i was always worried that PASTA is make of Maida. Now it makes me guilt free to serve him PASTA knowing it is by-product of wheat.
